Thanks for your prayers and on-going support. You are so valued! This past week, I have had the honor of teaching a seminar on Exploring the Gift and Nature of Dreams at the Wagner Leadership Institute Central in Pasadena, California and the Sunday morning and evening services at HRock Church. I also got to be with my two sons Justin and Tyler while in the LA area which made the trip extra special for me. This Wednesday I leave for ministry in Bogotá, Columbia, South America where a mighty move of God is under way. Every time I go, you, my faithful EN Supporters go with me! Thank you for your love and support.

For those living in the middle Tennessee region, remember our class on Pure Worship which will be running for  five more consecutive Tuesday nights at 7 PM.  It is being held at the Belmont Church’s Asaph’s Chambers in the heart of Nashville, TN. If you have missed the earlier sessions, you can still come to the remaining ones taught by Chris DuPre, Bob Perry and myself.  This is co-hosted by the Nashville House of Prayer and Encounters Network.

It seems like we stirred up a bit of debate on Facebook and Twitter by releasing the information on the Prophetic Author of the Year promotions. Let me give you a brief word of explanation. “Do the Double”

Jesus prophesied, “I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father” (John 14:12). I call this “doing the double,” and I believe that you and I are part of a generation that has been called to do these “greater works.” By listening to the Holy Spirit and then casting our nets where He tells us to, we will be able to haul in a miraculous catch!

This generation, arising and breaking out of the box of traditional limitations, carries a number of distinct characteristics:

• Faith coupled with humility.
• An appreciation for working in teams (gender-inclusive).
• Accountability with relational care, so that wounded warriors can be healed.
• An emphasis of the Fatherhood of God (not only the revelation of Jesus the Son).
• Diversities of anointings, releasing the Holy Spirit with creativity (the prophet and the seer) etc.
• Increased power, clarity and accuracy.
• An ability to see the target clearly.

The Church is our practice ground but the world is our field of operations. As we come alongside each other to help each other hear and obey the voice of the Spirit, we will find ourselves doing far greater works than Jesus did while He was on earth, making it possible for His effectiveness to be multiplied as more territory becomes part of His Kingdom. Let His Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven!

Prophetic Evangelism

A simple term for “casting your nets on the other side of the boat” is prophetic evangelism, which simply means listening to the Spirit and acting accordingly to bring the Kingdom to bear on the world around you.

Prophetic evangelism combines the sustained emphasis on evangelism that was ushered in with the Reformation more than six hundred years ago.  This began in 1904 with the one-hundred-plus-year emphasis on prophecy when the Pentecostal outpouring occurred. As the earlier holiness movement shifted into the Pentecostal movement, which then shifted into the charismatic movement, the groundwork was laid for the current apostolic movement and beyond. 

The priesthood of every believer makes it possible for the whole Church to be drawn into new realms of adventure with God. Prophetic evangelism has grown stronger as the Church has matured into a clearer understanding of her Bridal intimacy with her Bridegroom, Jesus, along with the governmental empowerment (the “bridal rule”) of God’s people.

We are all to be prophetic evangelists, whether we find ourselves in mega–churches and massive stadium events—or in some back alley ministering to a homeless person, whether we end up as missionaries in the jungles of the Congo or in Starbucks holding a grande cup of Colombian coffee. The same Holy Spirit keeps speaking to us everywhere we go. He will link us up with others, equip us, teach us how to combine our gifts, and do signs and wonders through us. People will be unable to deny that this is God in action. The power, the love, and the unity will make Him manifest to a lost world.

A Prophetic Prayer Storm

Foundational to prophetic evangelism—and breaking the way for its advance—is prophetic intercessory prayer. Another initiative of my own ministry has been what we call the Prayer Storm.

We have updated the 24/7 prayer model of the Moravians in Hernnhut, Germany two centuries ago, establishing an Internet-based worldwide community of intercessors who commit to pray for one hour per week for revival in the church, a youth awakening, Israel, and God’s intervention in times of crisis. This virtual house of prayer is storming the heavens even now, fueled by the responsiveness of the Spirit of God to the urgency of the times we live in.

With regular updates and reports, webcasts, and other resources, these prayer warriors are pioneering something that has never before been undertaken—blanketing the world with prophetic intercession around the clock that is not limited to one geographical spot. We are restoring and re-releasing the global Moravian Lampstand, based on these words from the book of God’s law: “Fire shall be kept burning continually on the altar; it is not to go out” (Lev. 6:13, nasb). Yes, you can join the Prayer Storm – the hour that changes the world – and together we can see global presence evangelism take as it did in the great revivals of the past.

Throughout our intercession–not only in the Prayer Storm, but also at any other time–we must listen to the Holy Spirit. Without His ongoing guidance, we will soon flounder and falter. In concert with Him, we have the perseverance and energy and accuracy to keep praying until we see definite results.

Let’s pray for greater impact in the global prophetic movement. Let’s ask for another wave of the prophetic to be released with a variety of effects. Let call forth prophetic evangelism and prophetic intercession and let’s see Jesus receive the rewards for His suffering! Let the adventure begin!

Besides the differences in personalities and in applications of the prophetic gifts, I am continually noticing additional diversity in the prophetic realm. Within the body of Christ, we are finding a wider ethnic diversity than ever before, and we are also hearing from fresh new voices. Many of these new voices are from the next generation, but some are also seasoned warriors with a voice that can be heard in this time and for this hour.

We are hearing new prophetic sounds, in terms of up-to-the-minute media presentations. Continuous change seems to be the new norm. We are trying new things and figuring out what works best. New ways of thinking require flexibility and adjustment. From prophetic evangelism at New Age fairs to solemn assemblies of hungry, passionate people, the name of Jesus is being proclaimed as never before.

Other relevant shifts include new aims and goals. I call it “the gutter and the gold”. No longer can the prophetic movement be at home only in middle class Causian churches. As the Spirit leads, it is finding its way into hopeless slums and secularized governmental offices.

Year after year, new models of Kingdom life are developing. They include everything from mega-churches to small house churches,  and from crowded stadiums to widely dispersed webcasts. Some flourish in places that have become centers of spiritual life, while others remain hidden from the public eye. Such a wide variety of new possibilities abound in this shifting prophetic landscape that I have tried to capture them in a memorable way. The following are my “nine M’s”.

The Nine M’s in Relevant Change:

1. Mighty streams of prayer and praise, combined with the prophetic, are encouraging the manifest presence of God. The worship movement is maturing and bringing us into higher realms of glory.
2. Miracle manifestations are proliferating, not only in Third World countries, but also in the West.
3. Marketplace ministry, never heard of until recently, is increasing. Guided by the Holy Spirit, Christians exercise their prophetic gifts in their places of secular employment, bringing much-needed wisdom and prophetic intercession into new situations.
4. Matrix of relationships. The gifts do not thrive in isolation; they require a healthy relational community of faith.
5. Missions outreach. In spite of world recession and the well-established indigenous Church, both long-term and short-term missions continue to be launched, based in many countries including places that until recently were on the receiving end of missionary activity.
6. Middle East emphasis. God is doing something in Israel and in the regions surrounding Israel as people bring the gospel of the Kingdom to the Jew first and them to the Gentile (see Romans 1:16).
7. Ministry training. With the proliferation of ministry training centers and the organic spreading of the mentoring movement, established prophets, pastors, and teachers are able to give away what they have earned and learned. People are realizing that the little bit they have may be someone else’s magnificent meal
8. Mercy ministries. My wife responded to a call for this one. She ministered in Mozambique, Thailand, among the First Nations and wherever else she was able, and she called it “the poor man’s watch.” In fact, she purchased a watch for one of those trips, thinking that she would give it away to someone who needed it. When she came home, she still had it on, and she felt that God was using it to remind her that she was on a prophetic mission to the poor, a true poor man’s (prayer) watch.
9. Media mania (reaching for more “M’s”)—another way of saying that people of the Kingdom are using every new means of communication, public and private.

Although we may differ some in theological emphasis, in issues of style and in many other ways, the Holy Spirit is helping the worldwide Church to achieve a remarkable level of unity and energy in “doing the stuff,” as John Wimber used to say. Whether we face more storms or times of fulfillment, it is time to seize the moment, listening to the Spirit for direction. The body of Christ is accepting an incredible opportunity to shift and move into Kingdom alignment. You too can find your place in this amazing adventure.

Getting It Together

I wish that personal character could have been an outright gift of the Spirit like the gift of prophecy or the word of wisdom. Our character flaws contribute more to our ministry failures than any other factor. And yet, our puny character represents a stroke of genius on the part of God, who wants us to rely on Him for everything.

Here He is, living inside each person who names Him as Lord, with a goal of transforming us into His image day by day. As we come into union with the Creator of the universe - who knows us better than we will ever know ourselves - we grow in our experience of new creation realities. Christ in us is the hope of glory (see Colossians 1:27).

The Spirit who dwells inside us is also the spirit of prophecy, and, as you will remember, the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus (see Revelation 19:10). As the spirit of prophecy draws you continually to the Lord of Love, you will know God better and better. As John the Beloved, the one who leaned his head on Jesus’ heart, put it:

This is the message, which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:5–7)

There is our cure for weak character—and our primary prophetic message. What an adventure this life with Him is turning out to be! Yes, there will be a generation that walks in the double: fullness of fruit (character) and fullness of power (gifts of the Holy Spirit). And when we add the Spirit of Wisdom to that – oh what an adventure that will truly be! And that will make us relevant in any culture and any generation!
