1) A Review of the Three Primary

     Functions of Angels

There are three primary functions that angels perform.

1. Render Service to God.

“Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts!” (Ps. 148:2)

Angels are created beings, and God is the Creator.

The first function of each angel is toward God.

2. Render Service to Christians.

 “And of the angels He says, ‘Who makes His angels winds, and His ministers a flame of fire.’…Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?” (Heb. 1:7, 14)

We are the created beings who inherit salvation; therefore, angels are sent to render service to believers.

3. Perform God’s Word.

“Bless the Lord, you His angels, mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word! Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, you who serve Him, doing His will”  (Ps. 103:20-21).

There appear to be two or three different ways this works. The first involves the direct command of God. The second involves the dispatch of angels in answer to intercessory prayer. The third may well involve the release of angelic activity in response to our utterance of God’s rhema word to us in certain situations. Angels will not obey man’s word, but they may well obey God’s Word through man as we echo God’s Word or voice in the earth by His Spirit.

2) A Review of the Three Wisdom Warnings

There are 300 Scriptures that mention angels, revealing their ministry and function as well as how human beings are to relate to them. God’s Word gives us three primary wisdom warnings concerning our interaction with angelic beings:

1. We are not to worship angels.

“Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels…“ (Col. 2:18 KJV).

2. We are not to revile angels.

“Yet in the same manner these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile angelic majesties” (Jude 8). (See also Second Peter 2:10-11.)

3. We are to judge every message, whether from men or angels.

“But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed” (Gal. 1:8).

3) Seven Key Points in Regards to

    Angelic Encounters

2 Kings 6:15-17 illustrates seven key points about angels and angelic activity that I personally have seen both biblically and experientially.

“Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha” (2 Kings 6:15).

1. Angels may be present and unperceived at any time.
   
   
2. Angels may be present and unseen but perceived by feeling or hearing (I urge you to read Ezekiel 10:5).
   
   
3. Angels may be visible to one person yet invisible to another person standing nearby.
   
   
4. Any of us may pray for someone’s eyes to be opened to this revelatory angelic realm.
   
   
5. All of us can grow in spiritual sensitivity.
   
   
6. Anyone who finally sees into the angelic realm will be astonished.
   
7. Seeing into the angelic realm will bring a new reality into our hearts: “For those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16b).

4) How Many Angels Are There?

As a final note, the angels of Heaven appear to be grouped into military-style contingents, only on a much larger scale than any human equivalent. Even one angel is sufficient to destroy the most powerful contingent of armed men in any age or century, but very often they go into battle in groups. According to Jesus in Luke 16:22, two or more angels teamed up to carry Lazarus to Paradise in honor. In Matthew 26:53 Jesus said He could summon 12 legions of angels to His aid at any time. (A Roman legion was a military unit of 4,000 to 6,000 soldiers. This means that at any given moment Jesus had more than 70,000 angels instantly available to Him.)

How many angels are there? Their total number is probably beyond human counting. The Book of Revelation refers to “ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands” of angels (Rev. 5:11 KJV). It describes a scene containing far more angels than any mere human figure of speech could convey. This term is also echoed by Daniel, see Dan. 7:10 KJV. Hebrews 12:22 (KJV) describe “an innumerable company of angels” in heavenly Jerusalem, and Deuteronomy 33:2 (NIV) tells us that the Lord “…came with myriads of holy ones from the south….”

I don’t know how many angels there are, but I think there are enough available to do all the things God wants to see accomplished in our lives and in our generation. I often say, “I have a suspicion that some of these angels are unemployed. They are waiting for the call to be released through our intercession. I think it is time for us to learn how to walk with God and tap into all the heavenly resources He has made available to us.”

“Lord, open the eyes of my heart that I might truly know, ‘Greater are they who are with us than they who are in the world.’ Send forth the angels of protection to watch out over me and my household. Send forth Your messenger angels with the word of the Lord. Send forth your angels to release an empowering of the spirit of strength and might from Your throne.

 I now welcome Heaven’s arsenal to wage war in my behalf. Send forth Michael and his angels to guard over Israel in this crucial hour. Let breakthroughs in the heavenlies occur as I praise and magnify the name of Jesus!  

I believe there are now angels on assignment sent into every sphere of influence you have delegated to me. Thank You, Lord, for Your care and plan for me. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.”

It indeed was an amazing time of intervention through Praise Warfare! Martha is in the kitchen in this hour but Mary also needs to maintain her position of ministry for this nation in this crucial hour.

As my pace has still been much slower as I still need time to rebuild strength, our finances have really taken a hit this summer. This has now greatly affected all our income streams and we are in more than just a tight place. Ask the Lord for His help for us. My wife and I continue with the vitamin therapy to build up our immune systems. I had PET and CT scans done this last week- see my recent health update for the results. So continue in prayer for us as we proceed on our journey towards restored health.
