November 3, 2005,

Welcome to our Women on the Frontlines Devotional E-mail. For those of you new to our E-mail, our previous devotionals are available for further study and meditation by accessing them through our web site in the archive file at www.MichalAnnGoll.com.

Well, my schedule is getting a little crazy again. Jim and I recently returned from leading an Israel Prayer Tour with our dear friend, Avner Boskey, and assisted by Leon Hoover, one of our trusted team. I can't express my delight in setting my feet on the land, once again.

We've just sent our dear friend, Joel Staab, off to Mozambique. He is helping to establish a base of prayer in Pemba. He is doing well, adjusting to the heat, the language, the culture, etc. We are blessed to have him there being an extension of our hands and heart to that nation and Iris Ministries.

I have just begun hosting a 6 week class entitled "Compassion Acts". We've been so fortunate to line up several very strong individuals whose lives have been wrecked by His beautiful presence and compassionate heart. These dear ones will be joining me to teach this class. I have great expectation for this time.

Having said all this, time has been a precious commodity and my writing schedule is a little difficult to maintain. So please forgive my rather sporadic offerings. Weare taking ground and doing some really important things. My heart loves these opportunities, but I also long for days of quietness and reflection, like the 10 days of awe as we just passed Rosh Hoshanna, the Jewish New Year. May you experience the peace and presence of our Lord more fully this new year!

Many Blessings!

Scripture -

"Is not My word like fire [that consumes all that cannot endure the test]?” says the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks in pieces the rock [of most stubborn resistance]? ” Jeremiah 23:29, Amplified Version

Devotional "Rocks in the Field!"

Most of you are aware that the Lord speaks to me in very practical natural pictures. I love it! It shows me God is everywhere, always anxious and ready to show us another aspect of His daily faithfulness.

We have lived in the Nashville area for over 8 years now and one thing I have surely discovered while living here is the abundance of rocks and stones. We have some acreage that constantly needs to be mowed with our old tractor that has a mower on the back. I can't tell you how many times I've run over those rocks and heard the sound of the blades striking them and thinking, oh - time to sharpen those blades again! Each time a rock is hit it dulls the blade. Our pasture is full of these rocks. The thought of trying to pick up every rock is overwhelming. Some are smaller, hand-sized ones, but also there are very large stones, protruding out from the landscape - impossible to move anywhere without mechanical assistance. Between our family and friends that help with our land, it makes me wonder how many rocks with which we have had to deal.

When Jim had a horse accident some years back, he landed on a rock, broke his nose and blood poured from his face. After that terrible accident, we took oil to that spot and poured it all over the rock. I began gathering rocks together to build an altar before the Lord, proclaiming His faithfulness in preserving Jim's life. It was simple, just a circular wall of rocks, looking somewhat like a well. Most people probably don't even see it when driving in or out of our driveway, but I know it's there and God does too.

In the time since our latest health battles I felt impressed to build another altar. It's not finished yet, but here's the point. I began realizing that these annoying stones had a purpose, and provided insight to me. I have mowed around these crazy things, sowed grass seed many times, and walked my horses around these rocks. Bulldozers have worked around them, unearthing many more previously hidden just under the surface.

I began to see something! These rocks could represent the struggles of our lives. Some are bigger than others, but each one is real. One of the Lord's treasures is to take all the things the enemy (and life) have thrown at us and have us make an altar to Him out of the very material that has caused us so much pain and difficulty. In fact, time after time in the Old Testament altars were established by different individuals gathering stones into a pile and leaving them there as a statement of God's faithfulness and greatness.

Jeremiah 23:29 takes it even further. "He is like a hammer that breaks in pieces the rock of most stubborn resistance!" Every little rock was once part of a much larger one. Even if we have lots of little "rocks" in our lives, we can rejoice because it signifies God's power in breaking every single area of stubborn resistance into smaller and smaller pieces! He is moving on our behalf! We are gaining ground!

May the Lord remind us of this every time we encounter these trials… rocks… stones. They are reminders of His faithfulness. Each time we stub our toe on one of these rocks, we can proclaim this scripture - that His Word is like a hammer - breaking every resistance!

Many Blessings!

Quote -

“ It takes two things to blow down a tree: a heavy wind outside and rot and decay inside. So it is with man. The winds of adversity may cause him to bend, but if he's strong and vigorous within, he will arise and grow to new heights after the storm passes . "

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus, we come to you in earnest worship and adoration. Lord, we all have lots of "rocks" that we have found in our lives. We've been moving around these rocks for some time. They have made us weary. Sometimes they are so heavy. But today, Lord, we want to do something with these hurtful things. We want to bring them to you, pile them up, and make a declaration in Faith. We declare Your Faithfulness over every large and small "rock" in our lives. We pile them together, declaring to all that You are the hammer breaking the power of every one of these situations that would resist you. Lord, we call for Your hammer to be released and for every rock, regardless of its size, to be smashed until there is nothing left of it but tiny grains, small enough to be walked upon. Lord, we declare You are our Rock, our Fortress, and in You we do trust!

                                              In Jesus' Name – Amen.

Applications –

You might actually want to make an altar to the Lord. Bring together stones, each one representing trials you have faced. Maybe you're not through them yet, and that's okay. Pile the stones together as an act of faith that you are worshipping God and giving Him the glory for your victory before you actually see it. You know He is faithful and will bring it to pass!
