Welcome to our Women on the Frontlines Devotional. For those of you new to this E-mail, our previous devotionals are available for further study and meditation on our web site in the archive file at www.MichalAnnGoll.com.

I'm in the catch up mode - after being on the road a lot the past few months. I have just returned from Montreat, NC this past weekend, and then we have our Thailand trip coming up May 27 - June 10. With this in mind, in an effort to maximize my time I will be adjusting the format I've been using in order to streamline. So the devotional may look a little different from time to time. Devotional – “Strategic Holy Spirit Cloaking!"

How many times have I gone to a "prophetic" meeting, hoping for a Word from the Lord? How many times have I prayed, "Lord, I ask for you to speak to me, but if You choose to speak to someone else tonight, I bless that release. I only want what You want. And then, after the meeting is over, and on those occasions when someone else did receive a word, and I didn't - how many times have I struggled with feelings of jealously, envy, comparison, and insecurity? Well, the answer to all these questions is the same: TOO MANY!

I remember one time (now this is my memory, okay?) where Jim and I were told we were going to receive a word from the Lord. This was years ago, before we even had any of our wonderful children. So, I was told to sit in the corner of the church on an old piano bench to wait for "my turn" to receive. Jim was going to receive first. Well, his "word" was very lengthy, and full. I thought, "Wow, my 'word' is going to be so good, because this word for Jim is so awesome!" I was sitting there, excitement building in every cell in my body. "Oh yes, Lord, I'm ready for the word You have for me!"

Finally, Jim's "word" had been delivered in full. I was sitting there, waiting to hear my name being called, ready to jump forward, ready to hear and receive, or so I thought! My name was not called. I was left on that bench, and gradually I figured it out - "THIS IS MY WORD!"

You know how a player feels when he/she has to sit on "the bench!" It means, "You're not as talented or as useful as the other players". It may mean, "You're not co-ordinated! You don't ‘score!’ You can't flow with the other team members. You're just not good enough! We can't figure out what to do with you." . . . The list goes on!

Well, I thought I was ready to hear the word the Lord had for me. I knew what I wanted, but did I really want what God wanted - ah, now that's the question. That evening was among the first of many "opportunities" I experienced to continue to "sit on the bench"! So many times I waited to receive what I wanted to receive! Oh, boy, is this speaking to you?

Now, I've seen times when someone unexpectedly received a word. You could hear the silent ooo's and ahhhh's in the room. If you could see in the Spirit, you could see a bull's eye being painted on the person's back; and later, sometimes they took a hit and they were attacked by the enemy! Why? Gradually, I've come to see the value of being hidden, not being placed in the public light of destiny and calling!

I've seen that sometimes you can accomplish more by people (and demonic forces) not being aware of the assignment on your life. I've seen the Lord root out insecurities, fears, and establish a growing maturity in lives through the assignment of learning to "wait on the bench". You know, humility is a good thing to learn; patience is good too! Sometimes we need to look at not only what God IS saying, but also, what He is NOT saying! That's just as important!

I've learned to be content to sit on the bench as he directs - hey, that mean's you're a member of the team, and it may also mean that your role is very "strategic". You may be one who can execute one play that no one else has mastered. You may not log heavy amounts of time playing on the field but you are sitting, waiting to be called whenever He needs you - you may make some touchdowns for the benefit of the whole team.

There is also something here that involves being in position for the "hidden" works of God to be accomplished in this time frame. There are secret missions that are being playing out - do you think the ones involved in these missions received public words? I don't think so!

I Corinthians 2:10b (listed above) is one of my favorite scriptures to pray in this season. More and more I want to be hidden because as I am hidden, I have more options to accomplish the assignment given to me. One thing we definitely want is for Holy Spirit to hide us, to be cloaked "beyond man's scrutiny"! This is a now prayer. The scrutiny of man brings with it the religious spirit, and we know that spirit is cruel and usually attacks our backs - it doesn't play "fair".

So, the next time you pray to receive a public word, remember these bits of wisdom here. Remember that the Lord only wants the best for you, and the best for the assignment He is releasing in you. His plan is to speak to you personally about these assignments, and then when the word is released through another, it will be a word of confirmation to what He has already whispered to you! Also, remember that a word prematurely released can have adverse affects, allowing many to be made aware of the plans of the Lord. It can release an attack against something that is vulnerable, like a little baby - and needs to be protected, held, rocked, comforted, and nourished. We want to learn how to be good mothers and fathers, for His Glory!

Prayer –

Holy Spirit, cloak us in Your covering. Protect us against the scrutiny of man. Keep us and Your purposes hidden from the enemy, but reveal Your purposes to the prophets and those whom You have chosen for these assignments. Help us, Lord, to get beyond thinking about us. Lord, we ask that You even come and bring healing and re-define past experiences in the prophetic. Help us receive from You so that we can trust You in all things, with all things. Help us to get our sights focused on what You want, what You're doing, and help us to get out of the way! Teach us the way of wisdom in these days. Help us learn big lessons with small consequences! In Jesus' Name, Amen.
