From the Desk of James W. Goll
Last week I brought you an important update on the life and ministry of Encounters Network including a pictorial overview of recent events and changes. We have the month of April to downsize our many belongings and move into a small house we have rented for offices close to downtown Franklin, Tennessee. Please pray for us - Obeying this “downsizing word” is quite an undertaking!
Each month we are attempting to keep you posted regarding the ongoing outreach of Compassion Acts. Since Mark Roye and team have recently returned from ministering in Haiti we will bring you an update of the impact Compassion Acts is making in this week’s A View From My Chair!
At the end of April each year, Compassion Acts and Encounters Network give our support to the National Day of Prayer for the Cherokee. April 23rd and 24th , 2010 will mark the third year in a row that we will join with our First Nations brothers and sisters in Oklahoma for this special day of intercession. This year’s event will be held near the Cherokee Heritage Museum in Tahlequah, OK 21192. We will join our prayers with their prayers, do a food and book distribution, and host a “Holy Smoke Bar-B-Que” in their honor. We are there to serve our First Nations people. This is their event and we want to be present in the Spirit of Christ to lovingly hold up their hands! If you are interested in participating, please e-mail John Mark Rodgers. If you would like to contribute online towards this Compassion Acts outreach >>Click Here<<.
Remember to visit our online bookstore to get a free copy of the Compassion ~ A Call to Take Action with any purchase you make for the remainder of the month of March. We are sorry for any difficulty you may have experienced in our product fulfillment. We have been made aware of a few glitches in the system and are taking steps to correct them.
So now let’s take a peek at the impact Compassion Acts is making via a report from Mark Roye. Thanks for your love, prayers and support! We cannot do this without you!
May the Testimony of Jesus Spread!

Compassion Acts Haiti Update
By Mark Roye
First of all let me thank everyone that has supported our efforts in sending aid to the people of Haiti who have suffered so much from the earthquake. To date we have shipped over 2.1 million dollars worth of aid to Haiti. Things are changing so much at this time. My friend Mike Lynch and I recently made a trip to Haiti to see for ourselves the condition of the effort there to help people in need. We anticipated things would really be changing and they have. Up until the end of February there was a greater ease and ability to send aid in. There is now more paperwork and cost involved since the Haiti government is able to once again open their ports. Our purpose in going was to establish relationships with ministries on the ground that have the ability to receive, store and distribute aid as it is not an easy task to do this in the midst of the current conditions on the ground. But as always, God was able to connect us with some awesome people there. Here are some highlights:
Mission of Hope – Titanyen – It was awesome to visit Brad Johnson who leads this ministry. They are playing a vital role in Haiti by providing one of the best surgery rooms in the country. They have been able to partner with doctors, nurses and other medical personal from the USA and provide great care for people. Their clinic has been seeing up to 250-300 people per day. They also have a warehouse that has been able to receive and distribute millions of dollars worth of aid to people in the city as well as to those who have fled to the suburban areas. On their campus they have 58 children in their children’s home. Over 1,300 people come to church every weekend. It really is an oasis of hope!
Grace International – We were given the name of a ministry located in a city called Carrefoure, which is actually a part of greater Port-a-Prince. As we drove into the compound behind gates and walls that had been repaired from the earthquake damage, we could not believe our eyes. We first saw the large tents of Doctors without Borders who had open a clinic there. As we looked further we saw thousands of tents that were housing over 20,000 displaced people. All of this was on the church property! It had become a city of refuge! We were then directed to go to the back part of the property to meet the people leading the work of this ministry and walked the paths through this new tent city. It was amazing to see the hope and joy that was visible in the people. Arriving at the building that had become the office for the work there we met Danny Jeune who is the son of Bishop Joel R. Jeune, leader of Grace International.
As we talked with him we were taken aback by the vision and hope he had for what he called, “THE NEW HAITI”! This young man has such authority and favor on him. He was working with the city government as a leader and had oversight of not just the 20,000 people living on the campus, but of the 100,000 people in his part of the city. There is not enough time or space to write all we saw. To get a glimpse of the work they are doing there please visit their website at: www.graceintl.org ..
Note from James W. Goll – In the 1980’s I did 14 short-term missions trips to Haiti. One of the two primary apostles that I worked with in those days was Bishop Joel Jeune. He was the one who helped us to have the crusade that I organized in Carrefoure with my dear friend Mahesh Chavda. At one point I ministered at Bishop Juene’s main church and was taken to his house to meet his family and pray over his children. So years ago, I actually met Danny Jeune and blessed him as a child. This is the same next generation leader making a difference in his country that Mark Roye has now made connection with and believes the hand of the Lord is upon. PTL! It was so thrilling to see that the Lord is revisiting the labors of the past and building bridges for the future. Only a God who sees and knows all can perform such “relational miracles.” Now back to Mark Roye.
Time does not allow me to write about all we experienced - we will save that for another time. But let me say that the Kingdom of God is present in Haiti. There are people and ministries there that are carrying the Kingdom message of hope to a hurting people. We have experienced working in the midst of disasters where we overwhelmed by seeing the thousands before our eyes that are in need of help. I remember the Lord saying to me, “You can see the thousands, but you must find the one.” I can touch one. I can help feed one. I can give hope and love to one. And you can to… That is what Compassion Acts is all about. It is about finding the ones that are willing to help the ones that need not just a handout, but also a hand up. The partnership of your prayers and your finances allow us to do our part. We will keep sending aid as long as the Lord provides the resources to do so. Compassion Acts goal is to lift up hands and encourage hearts to those on the ground that are bringing the love of Jesus to those in need.
Thank You for Your Support in our Relief Efforts in Haiti!
