From the Desk of James W. Goll
Last week I took time to share a teaching on Listening Prayer; I hope that each of you were able to begin Practising His Presence. He longs to speaks to us and have us speak to Him. I encourage you to set time aside each day or at least weekly to spend quietly waiting on Him. Some of you will want soft music, others will want stillness, but either way take time to be with Him. This is a season when this practice will become life to you and many around you!
This week I want to have us focus our intercession on a crisis taking place in Somalia. On March 10th, 2009 the government of Somalia took the first in approving Shari'ah Laws or Islamic Law. This country has been war torn for almost two decades and is looking to the same style of government that the Taliban used in Afghanistan in an effort to end the fighting and internal conflict that has plagued them for many years. However, as we observed in Afghanistan, the rule of the Taliban and Islamic Law simply provides a different form of oppression. It is a perceived peace that robs freedom.
It is had to imagine having all freedoms stripped from you and being told how you are to live your life. Women are particularly oppressed under Shari'ah Law. As someone who has aways lived as a freeman, it is hard to understand why someone would choose to come under this type of government. While all the people will suffer, it will be the women and especially the youger women who will be target of abuse and censorship. They will become second class citizens.
A good friend of mine, Steve Schultz, has done a great job over the years making a platform for many prophetic voices to be heard through his email list and website Elijahlist.com. I took a moment to look back through the prophetic words from others that he has released, and came across a word from Catherine Brown from 2001. Catherine is a friend of our Minisitry's and has a great heart. Her word/vision was this:
A WONDERFUL AND TERRIBLE WORD FOR AFRICA --
And a Call to pray for the Children in Somalia, Nairobi, and Nigeria
CHILDREN SINGING, " SOMALIA, NAIROBI, AND NIGERIA"
I heard the most glorious sound in the Spirit of thousands of children singing. I could hear African drums playing and the sound lifted me in heavenly joy. The children were singing "Somalia, Somalia, Somalia" and the sound was that of revival. I listened intently, and they sang the names of two other countries - "Nairobi, Nairobi" and "Nigeria, Nigeria". Even as I type this I can hear the sound of their uplifted voices, gloriously in love with Jesus.
The children were lifting these nations before the throne of God releasing the will of God on the earth. Their praise was the key that unlocked revival. I was reminded of God's word that He has ordained praise on the lips of children and infants, because of the enemy and in order to silence the foe and avenger!
THE SICKLE SWUNG IN AFRICA
I then saw a vision of the continent of Africa and a huge sickle swung from its northern most tip to its southern most tip. This sickle signified the beginning of horrific persecution in the countries that had been sung of. I wept as I heard the children continue to sing. Revival could not be hindered or stopped.
Deep in my spirit, I grieve for those who will give their lives for Christ in Somalia, Nairobi and Nigeria, yet I exalt our heavenly Father for the place of honor amongst the martyrs they will hold.
WE MUST PRAY FOR THE CHILDREN
[THIS IS A CALL] for intercessors around the world to link hands in prayer for Africa and the massive revival amongst children that is about to be birthed there. We must pray for their protection and for their faith to be strengthen.
With love and blessings of peace and grace in Christ Jesus our Savior
Your sister and friend
Catherine Brown, Scotland
This was published in the Elijahlist on Aug 3, 2001, as I read it I was stirred that this may be the season in which we see this word fulfilled. While I call our focus to the crisis of the implementation of Shari'ah Law, I want us also to call forth the song of the Revival that Catherine saw in her vision. I want us to call forth the Revival in the young and see it spread to the old as a fire spreads across dry grass. In your prayer time ask Father to reveal a face of one of these who will sing the Revival song and pray for them.
Below I will give you some reference articles so that you may see the reality of this crisis but I want our focus to be on the Revival that is coming...Remembering that when the enemy comes in...LIKE A FLOOD THE SPIRIT IF THE LORD WILL RAISE UP A STANDARD AGAINST him, Isaiah 59:19. Shari'ah law is the enemy...BUT THE FLOOD IS THE REVIVAL AND THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS THE STANDARD. Call forth the flood waters of revival and Spirit of the Lord to cover this African nation!
With Anticipation!

Somalia Approves Shari`ah Laws
By IslamOnline.net & News Agencies
MOGADISHU — The government endorsed on Tuesday, March 10, plans to introduce Shari`ah-adherent laws in the African Muslim country. "The cabinet members discussed deeply on the issue regarding the Islamic shari`ah law and the members unanimously approved full implementation," Information Minister Farhan Ali Mohamoud told reporters.
All the 20 of the country's 36 ministers present at the session headed by Prime Minster Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke backed the move. After the government’s approval, the proposal is now to be presented to parliament for final ratification. A delegation from the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) had earlier proposed to newly-elected President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed several recommendations for a truce with opponent Islamist groups, including the implement of Shari`ah.
Mohamoud, the information minister, said the government is convinced that the application of Shari`ah will take the country a long way toward the ending ongoing strife. "Islamic Shari`ah is the only option to get solutions for the problems in this country." Islamist opposition groups, led by the militant Al-Shabab, have long insisted on the application of Shari`ah in the Horn of Africa Muslim nation. They have already enforced Shari`ah in areas under their control in the southern parts of the country....
The Application of Shari’a Laws in Somalia
http://www.mareeg.com
Shari’a has been accepted and partially implemented in Somalia throughout its history. However, modern call for Shari’a is ascribed to the Islamic movements advocating its comprehensive application in the remaining aspects of life. Since the vacuum of the state collapse in 1991, Islamists in Somalia intensified their activities through social services.
The fruits of their sustained efforts are reaped in the form of growing
Islamization trend in the whole society. This tendency was manifested in the
constitutions of “Somaliland” and Puntland, as well as in the National Charters adopted in the Reconciliation Conferences Djibouti (2000) and Kenya (2004). Moreover, selected elements of Shari’a were applied by the “Islamic Courts” set up in certain localities within communities. These Courts had developed later into an armed political movement under the “Union of the Islamic Courts” in 2006. As a result, the political landscape has changed and the unity government between the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and Alliance of Re-liberation (ARS) was formed. Being the key demand for the emerging Islamists, the Council of Ministers have recently approved the bill of Shari’a.
