This week's PrayerStorm centers on Praying for Your Pastor as a means of bringing about and sustaining Revival in the Church. The scriptures teach us that if “you strike the shepherd the sheep will scatter.” So it is imperative that we learn to lift up a prayer shield for our spiritual leaders.

Again, let me emphasize. This is not just a “prayer assignment” for one hour on one day only this week, but is a priority as “watchmen on the walls”. Also to help you, we have just posted a very practical MP3 message on Praying for Your Pastor on our web site, download this message and pass it on!

You can take this outline and adapt it for any of your spiritual leaders whether they be apostles or prophets, congregational pastors, a small group leader, trans-local or marketplace leaders. But let’s be also be true to this week’s emphasis and pray for our “pastors”. This is so important! Be an Aaron or an Hur and lift up the hands of your Moses (Strategic Spiritual Leader) this week!

Praying for Your Pastor

Revival in the Church!

INTRODUCTION

To begin this valuable lesson, let’s take a moment to read some of the writings of Paul the beloved apostle from Ephesians 6. Then we will take a look at some very practical points on how to pray a hedge of protection as a prayer shield around our spiritual leaders.

Ephesians 6:10-18, Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert, with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.

I. PLACING A HEDGE AROUND YOUR PASTOR

Key Scripture - Be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of His might. (Eph. 6:10)

A. Meditate on the greatness of God on behalf of your pastor - Rom. 8:28, 31,37; 1 Pet. 3:12.

B. Expose the wiles of the devil - Eph. 6:11-12.

C. Claim scriptural promises for their overall protection - Is. 54:14-17; Ps. 34:7; Lk. 10:19;
     2 Cor. 10:3-4.

D. Petition the Father to grant them a discerning spirit - 2 Cor. 11:14; 1Jn. 4:1.

II. THE PASTOR’S PRIVATE LIFE

Key Scripture - Stand firm therefore ... girded ... with truth... Eph. 6:14.

A. Request that their glory be solely in the cross - Gal. 6:14.

B. Pray:

1. For their continued renewal - Is. 40:27-31.
2. For their holiness - 1 Pet. 1:16.

C. Seek:

1. For them a clear vision of the merits of Christ - Phil. 3:7-10.
2. For godly contentment - 1 Tim. 6:6.

3. For the love of God to be shed abroad in their hearts - Rom. 5:5.

III. THE PASTOR’S PERSONAL LIFE

Key Scripture - Stand firm therefore ... having put on the breastplate of righteousness. (Eph. 6:14)

A. Intercede for their spouses, children and families - Ps. 91:9-12; Ps. 37:25.

B. Cancel in Jesus’ name all assignments against them - Mt. 16:19.

C. Remove by faith all obstacles to their total health and prosperity - Mk. 11:23; Phil. 4:19.

IV. THE PASTOR’S PRAISE LIFE

Key Scripture - Stand firm therefore ... having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. (Eph. 6:15)

A. Ask the Father to give them a strong worship - Mt. 4:10.

B. Bind:

1. The spirit of fear - Jn. 14:1.
2. The spirit of gloom - Is. 61:3.
3. The spirit of negativity - 2 Tim. 1:6-7.

C. Listen for any other direction to pray - Eccles. 5:1-2.

V. THE PASTOR’S PRAYER LIFE

Key Scripture - Stand firm therefore ... above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. (Eph. 6:16, NKJ)

A. Quench in the Holy Spirit, darts of doubt - Mk. 6:5-6.

B. Rebuke all distractions from their devotional time - Mk. 5:36.

C. Loosen the forces of heaven to aid in prayer:

1. Mk. 1:35 (private prayer).
2. Acts 1:14 (corporate prayer).

VI. THE PASTOR’S PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Key Scripture - Stand firm therefore ... and take the helmet of salvation... (Eph. 6:17a)

A. Shield them from the fear of men - Is. 11:1-3; Prov. 19:23.

B. Bestow on them:

1. Favor in the denomination - Prov. 18:16.
2. Support among their peers - Prov. 11:4.

C. Entreat:

1. Jesus to give them an uncompromising truth - Prov. 4:20-27.
2. Wisdom in leadership - Jas. 1:5.

VII. THE PASTOR’S PREACHING LIFE

Key Scripture - Stand firm therefore ... (with) the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Eph. 6:17b)

A. Bless them with rich study time - Acts 6:4; 2 Tim. 2:15.

B. Grant:

1. To them a bold proclamation of Jesus - Col. 1:28.
2. To them opportunities - Col. 4:3-4.

C. Anoint them:

1. To preach and teach - Lk. 4:18; 1 Jn. 2:27.
2. For apostolic results - Acts 2:37.
3. For signs and wonders - Mk. 16:20.
4. To reveal truth - Mt. 16:17.

VIII. THE PASTOR’S PERSEVERING LIFE

Key Scripture - Stand firm therefore ... praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance... (Eph. 6:18a, NKJ)

A. Honor them with lasting fruit - Mal. 3:11; Jn. 15:16.

B. Confess over them:

1. Steadfastness - 1 Cor. 15:58.
2. Bold vision - Is. 41:10.
3. Rest - Heb. 4; Mt. 11:28.

C. Give thanks for their call and gifts - Col. 1:3-5.

D. Secure them in courage - Josh. 1.

IX. CONCLUSION

Key Scripture - Fight the good fight of faith... (1 Tim. 6:12a)

A. Expect all that you have prayed.

B. Stand behind them girding them in prayer.

C. Yield to the Spirit for other areas of prayer and intercession.

D. Amen. Let it be so!
