From the Desk of James W. Goll

This week in our Global Prayer Storm efforts, we are engaging in prayer for the crisis in the nation of Haiti. If you missed that communiqué and web cast then you can view it by clicking here

It is time to pray and it is time to act!  Compassion Acts as a division of Encounters Network is being mobilized in a major manner and is partnering with various ministries within our EN Alliance – a coalition of friends - to help respond to the needs of the people of Haiti at this critical time through Compassion Acts Haiti Emergency Relief Fund.

One of our friends in the EN Alliance, Carla Brewington of Harvest Emergency Relief, is onsite in Haiti right now and we are sending finances to help her in her efforts.  Dan Lee, a pastor in Sturbridge, Massachusetts and another friend in the EN Alliance already had a team ministering in Haiti when the earthquake struck. He is now mobilizing short term teams and aid to go to Haiti over the next 6 months or even longer. Mark Roye, the Director of Compassion Acts, through his amazing ability to network with other leaders and ministries, has already sent three containers containing supplies worth millions of dollars.

I have included messages from both Dan and Mark below. Both bring their unique perspectives on this relief effort - Dan Lee from his viewpoint as the pastor of a local church and Mark Roye from his ministry leader role as Director of Compassion Acts and Blood N Fire Ministries in San Antonio, TX.

We will be supporting these efforts and ask you to partner with us in giving support as well by donating directly to theCompassion Acts Haiti Emergency Relief Fund.  None of the money contributed will go towards administration costs but will be given in entirety toward critical supplies needed within Haiti.  So let us step up to the plate together in our joint efforts in the Compassion Acts Haiti Emergency Relief Fund.. Pray! Go! Give!

Please also remember that we are offering our FREE God Encounters Book during the month of January with every order through our online bookstore or by phoning in your order at 1-877-200-1604.

Thank you for your continued support of Compassion Acts and the ministry of Encounters Network!

Compassion Acts and the EN Alliance Respond...

Experience from the Trenches with Mark Roye

As I write this update I have spent hours speaking with leaders of ministries and churches that want to help in Haiti.  Over the past 5 years with the Hurricanes that have hit he United States we have gained much experience and built some very strong relationships with others to maximize impact for the Kingdom of God.  Together we have been able to bring in over 50 million dollars worth of aid.  Even to this day work continues in New Orleans and up and down the Gulf Coast. Katrina was the worse that we have had to work with as far as the degree of suffering and damage done by a disaster.

Compassion Acts is partnering with Blood N Fire and Somebody Cares America and others to bring aid to those in need.  In a recent conference call with Doug Stinger, who leads Somebody Cares America, we talked with ministry leaders from all over the country.  On that call we discussed the need for teams to go in to access on the ground what is the best plan to bring aid in. We know that the church has and will play a big role in the country of Haiti.  We see this as a HUGE opportunity for the cause of Christ.  Our efforts will be establishing the bases of our trusted relationships with church, orphanages and other ministries.  We will use them as places of refuge to bring aid and hope to the hurting.  In the next couple of days we will have real time reports of what is the best way to proceed.

Our response right now is that we already have three containers that are loaded and are being shipped immediately.  These containers are filled with fortified rice meals, building supplies, sleeping bags, shoes, books and other aid items.  We have already been given 1 million meals to send in.  Our immediate focus will be shipping these in as soon as we can to support our already established relationships. We will be getting updated needs from our partners on the ground and will make those needs known.

How Can You Help?

First of all please join PrayerStorm effort at www.prayerstorm.com and pray for Haiti.  We can all do that.  And then please pray about giving finances to help give us the power to buy, ship and give aid.  You can do this by giving directly online to Compassion Acts and designate the giving toCompassion Acts Haiti Emergency Relief Fund. You may also call at 1-877-200-1604 and contribute through our call center.

Money right now is the best way to give aid because we can buy specifically what is needed.  Our first goal is $10,000 for 5 containers. We can send a container worth millions of dollars of donated aid by only paying for the shipping costs from Houston, TX at $2,000 per container.  We already have 3 containers paid for. But we not going to stop there. We are praying for $50,000 right now through our collective efforts to be able to move the aid that is being channeled in our direction.

As we see the devastation on the news it can be overwhelming, but rest assure we can make a difference.  I have seen God do it over and over again. Together we can make a difference.  Please pray, please give!

A New England Church Responds with Dan Lee

The time is short and the need is great. Haiti is trembling under the impact of the recent earthquake and multiple aftershocks that have rocked this island nation. It is clear that no one person or even nation will be able to fully respond to this need. It will take a long term, sacrificial and determined effort on the part of many people to help the nation of Haiti recover from this tragedy.  Sturbridge Worship Center is committed to this tiny Island through seven years of ministry, relationship building, medical clinics, food distribution, church planting, establishing schools and more in partnership with Mission of Hope and their network of sister churches throughout southern Haiti.

One of our teams was in Grand Goave, Haiti when the first earthquake hit and has witnessed much pain and destruction. They have returned safely as of Sunday night but we are agressively planning our return. We are planning not only for immediate response but for the long term goal of helping in any way we can to bring hope and restoration within our sphere of influence. We intend to assist through establishing medical clinics, temporary housing camps, distribution of supplies to help families recover, building sanitation facilities and reconstruction and clean up as well as other projects based on the complexion of each team that is assembled.

As a Result We Need Your Help

It is our hope to send teams periodically over the next 6-12 months (or longer) as the Lord permits to help in this hour of need. Lord willing our first relief team will leave around Feb. 6th with a goal of teams heading out for either one or two week commitments as long as the laborers are available and the resources endure.

Can You Go?

We need workers. Mature individuals with medical skills, construction knowledge, structural engineering skills and communications skills are of greatest value at this time though those with a strong back and a willingness to help will still be valuable and considered for a place on a team. The conditions will be rough, but the need is pressing. If you have interest in being part of a team please contact us directly at SWCAlive@aol.com or by calling the church at 508-347-9642 for more information. There will be a mandatory application process and orientation for anyone added to the relief teams.

Can You Give?

We need money and supplies! Of greatest importance is the raising of financial support and supplies. Right now in the region we are working at least one of the orphanages has been destroyed, as well as the schools, much housing, the Catholic Church and so much more. Many are dead and others will die. However, the quicker we can mobilize resources the more impact we will have. There is a team of doctors from the North Shore area already in place this week conducting clinics throughout the region west of Port au Prince.

We at Sturbridge Worship Center will be taking a special emergency relief offering and encouraged other churches to do the same. If you desire to help with your gift you may do so through the link provided on our church web site at www.sturbridgeworshipcenter.org http://www.sturbridgeworshipcenter.org . We have also begun to receive commitments of emergency and long term care medical supplies, building materials and camping goods and will be in need of additional funds to see that these are allocated to the priority situations.

Can You Pray?

We need an ongoing cry of prayer to be lifted up before the Lord in response to this pressing situation. Please continue to pray for the communities that have been affected by this earthquake, the teams that are reaching out to them and for the continual flow of laborers and resources that will be needed to provide ongoing assistance.

A Closing Word from James Goll

It is not the time to think about doing something, it is time to act. S. D. Gordon stated, “You can do more than pray after you’ve prayed, but you can not do more than pray until you’ve prayed!” Well, this week through Prayer Storm we have prayed!

Now let’s give!  I am!  Our Ministry is giving out of our need!  I know Michal Ann is smiling as she sees us stepping to the plate.

Join Dan Lee in a short term missions trip. Help us send containers worth millions of dollars worth of goods!  Yes, let’s step to the plate, pray, and have compassion making a difference!

Give to the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund!
