From the Desk of James W. Goll
On February 10th, Israel will hold an unscheduled election as
in the prior elections on October 26, "newly elected Kadima Chair Tzipi Livni informed President Shimon Peres that she did not succeed in forming a coalition government. Peres decided to call for new general elections to the Knesset, which are set for February 10, 2009". >>Click Here<< for more on this event and for background on the election process in Israel.
Long before now I have wanted to call us to pray for this election, but with the war in Gaza going on no one was sure if the elections would be held on Feb. 10th. It does seem safe for the people of Israel to vote on Tuesday so the elections, as of today, will be held then. The indications from most of the polls that I have seen show Likud leader Binyamin (Bibi) Netanyahu is leading the race for the Prime Minister. This would not be his first time as Prime Minister of Israel as he was Israel's 9th PM from June 1996 - July 1999. Many have thought his work was incomplete and left undone when he left office and that he would have another opportunity to complete his vision and destiny in Israel.
In a story run by the Jerusalem Post: Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu toured the Mount of Olives and
the City of David on Monday afternoon, and promised to keep Jerusalem united, should he win next Tuesday's election. He went on to say: We did not unite the city in order to divide it, and my government will maintain a united Jerusalem. A sane country does not give its capital to its enemies.
No matter what your position towards Israel, the bible makes it clear that a re-gathered Israel will never be scattered or divided again! We need to pray that the USA supports Israel as it stands unwilling to divide itself! And remember Ezekiel 5: 5 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: This is Jerusalem, which I have set in the center of the nations, with countries all around her. Jerusalem is mentioned nearly 800 times in the scriptures. God's heart is for this nation of Israel and His city of Jerusalem.
Let’s pray this week with all our hearts for the next leader that Father G_d would choose to lead Israel. Pray that His man would be established in the office of the Prime Minister and that this man will be strong enough to fight the world view and stand not dividing Israel or Jerusalem!
I have also included some information below concerning the alleged bombing of a school in Gaza where the UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East). had set up as a refuge area. I know much was publicized concerning this event in which many died and were injured. Each report I heard carried the message that Israel had bombed a school clearly marked as a refugee area, but as I have looked more into this it seems that the whole of the story was not presented and was used simply as an anti-Israel tool to turn the nations against her. I encourage you to read through the link and search out this story for yourself. It is a loss when anyone dies but the deaths that are counted happened outside the school walls and none of the people inside the school were reported dead as far as I have been able to discover.

Pray for the Elections in Israel
In an article in the Jerusalem Post Binyamin Netanyahu was quoted on Tuesday as saying: that a government under his leadership would topple the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip. He went on to say: "The policy of blindness followed in the past years has brought us to this situation," Netanyahu continued. "Residents can no longer count on miracles and Kadima policy."
In a different story run by the Jerusalem Post: Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu toured the Mount of Olives and the City of David on Monday afternoon, and promised to keep Jerusalem united, should he win next Tuesday's election. Netanyahu's advisers said he came to the sites in the capital in order to bring attention to reports that his main rival, Kadima leader Tzipi Livni, had agreed to give up portions of the city in negotiations over the past 14 months with her Palestinian counterpart, Ahmed Qureia. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert reportedly told US Middle East mediator George Mitchell last week that Livni had agreed to divide the city. "We did not return to Jerusalem after praying for it to be rebuilt for 2000 years in order to give it up," Netanyahu told a throng of reporters from around the world at the City of David. "We did not unite the city in order to divide it, and my government will maintain a united Jerusalem. A sane country does not give its capital to its enemies."
Political infighting delaying Israel response to Gaza rockets
www.Haaretz.com
By Amos Harel and Avi Issacharoff
Exactly a week before the elections it is already impossible to know which way is up: Political considerations and strategic indecision are being used to add to the the chaos of Israeli decision making. What is much more clear is that Israel, in stark contrast to its hopes at the end of Operation Cast Lead, has maneuvered itself into a real mess. For more than a week now, Palestinian factions (at this stage it does not appear to involve Hamas), are blatantly ignoring the cease-fire and are firing rockets at the Negev. In one case, an Israel Defense Forces scout was killed by the blast of an explosive device near the fence surrounding the Gaza Strip.
Israel 's response, at least to date, has been limited and measured. On Sunday night, the air force attacked tunnels used for smuggling and an empty police station. Yesterday it struck a team of militants firing mortars, killing one. This is not the threat of a disproportionate response that Israel issued after the IDF pulled out of the Strip, and which Prime Minister Ehud Olmert reiterated Sunday. Even though there are operational considerations that are delaying more extensive action (and which was authorized last week), it seems the character of the action now is directly affected by disagreement among the Olmert-Livni-Barak troika.

Finding the Heart of the Father for His People!
Lord, we call forth in our day and in this generation, a heart for Israel - your land and the people you chose to walk among. This is the one place in the world that You chose to be born and live. These are the only people you chose to be called Yours, The Apple of Your eye! We pray that anti-semetic spirit which is spreading throughout Europe, the Middle East and here in America will bow its knee as we, your people, pray. We pray that Your leader will be elected in Israel in this difficult and trying time. We pray that Israel will not be divided and that Jerusalem will not be divided! You have made it clear in your word that when you gather this nation it will not be scattered or divided again! So we agree with Your Word and pray for Your people and this Your land! In Your holy name! Amen and Amen!
