From the Desk of James W. Goll
This week I want us to focus our prayers on India and specifically Mumbai, formally known as Bombay. As many of you may know a terrerist attack took place last week in Mumbai. These attacks took place in over 7 different locations around the city including a railway station, a popular restaurant, a hospital, two hotels and a Jewish centre. At this point news reports say over 190 people have died and 300 or more were shot or wounded. Indian officials have stated this is their 9/11 wake up call and that they were unprepared for the tradgedy.
Please pray for the families of those who have died and for all of the wounded and injured. Pray for God's grace, peace and love to flow over each and every one who is hurting! Pray for God's love to invade these lives and forever change them, terrorists included! Pray for laborers to bring God's love and compassion to these who are hurting! Pray for God's love to touch each police and army officer who had to be a part of stopping these terrorists and helping the dead and wounded. Pray for the medical personnel that are treating the wounded people. Pray for the firefighters as they battle the fire and risk their lives in damaged buildings. I could go on but please follow the leading of Holy Spirit.
History of Mumbai

Arial view of Mumbai's Slums
|
Mumbai (Bombay): Home to the razzle-dazzle world of Bollywood, India’s answer to Hollywood, rambunctious Mumbai ( Bombay) is an utterly mind-bending assault on all the senses. A veritable melting pot of religions, customs, and culinary traditions, this is India’s economic powerhouse and its most cosmopolitan metropolis. Said to have more millionaires per square mile than Manhattan, Mumbai also has the dubious distinction of housing Asia’s largest slum. Indeed, the “City of Dreams,” as it’s affectionately dubbed, is a city of sharp contrasts: business tycoons drive past scantily clad adults and children on the living on the streets...(National Geographic website)
Let us also actively engage in preemptive prayer strategies that thwart that plans of the enemy. Please remember to pray weekly that the plans of the enemy towards your city, state/county/district and nations will be exposed and brought down before they happen. In 2 Kings 6:8-23 the story is told of a king who wondered who in his court was sharing his plans with the enemy (Israel). It reads that "One of his servants said, None, my lord O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedchamber..." Let us pray for and be among those who stand up for their city and hear the plans of the enemy and speak it the the leaders so that lives might be saved.

died. The attackers opened fire in several locations, including a railway station, a popular restaurant, a hospital, two hotels and a Jewish centre. It took nearly three days of running battles between elite commandos and the gunmen before the sites were secured. The Indian government is facing growing anger over its handling of the attacks. The home minister and the chief and deputy chief ministers of Maharashtra state have all submitted resignations.

Ruthless Attackers, Desperate Victims

MUMBAI, Nov. 29 -- About two dozen Americans, their cameras filled with photos of Hindu temples and Buddhist caves, were eating a sushi dinner in the posh lobby cafe of the Oberoi hotel when a young gunman raised an assault rifle and opened fire.
It was just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, the start of a terrifying siege that would last about three days.
"We all dived under the table," said Linda Ragsdale, a children's book illustrator from Nashville who was visiting India with a Virginia-based meditation group. "I tried to lay my head down and pretend I was dead." Bullets whizzed over the diners' heads. The sound of grenades reverberated off the polished marble floors of the cafe. Ragsdale pulled a young girl under the table. But it quickly became apparent that the girl, Naomi Scherr, a spunky 13-year-old with red hair, had been hit. Her body was pale and limp.
"I was taking in the enormity of the moment, thinking that this energetic child who I had been playing with in the pool the night before -- and had made a pact to do somersaults with -- was dead, shot. That's when the shooting started again. It was loud and continuous. And there were constant bomb blasts," Ragsdale recalled.
"Within minutes, I saw another gunman coming around the corner. He shot me. I felt nothing, and I again tried to play dead," she said. The bullet ricocheted off her spine. She spoke from her bed at Bombay Hospital, where she was being treated.
After a wave of coordinated terrorist attacks turned parts of Mumbai's financial district into a combat zone, the full extent of the 60 hours of violence came to light Saturday in the stories of victims who filled the city's hospitals. The assailants killed at least 195 people and wounded about 300. Among the dead were 22 foreigners, including six Americans.

Gov't Source: US warned India before Mumbai attack
By JENNIFER LOVEN
WASHINGTON (Associated Press) — The Bush administration warned India before last week's brutal attacks in Mumbai that terrorists appeared to be plotting a mostly waterborne assault on its financial capital, a senior administration official said Tuesday.
The official would not elaborate on the timing nor details of the U.S. warning to Indian counterparts. The official confirmed, though, that Washington passed on information it had about a possible attacks, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of intelligence information.
The revelation of U.S. involvement comes as the Indian government faces widespread accusations of security and intelligence failures after the attacks last week. Suspected Muslim militants carried out a three-day assault that killed 172 people and wounded 239 in the heart of Mumbai.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is set to visit India Wednesday, carrying the U.S. demand that Pakistan cooperate fully in the investigation into the attacks and to try to reduce tensions between India and Pakistan, who share a longtime and deadly rivalry.
Amid information that the terrorists trained in camps in Pakistan, India has demanded that Islamabad hand over suspected terrorists believed living there and had said that Pakistan's leaders must take "strong action" action against those responsible.
Among those killed in Mumbai were six Americans, White House press secretary Dana Perino said.

There are tears, pain, mourning and loss. There is hope, commitment and faith. But there are no words.
Instead our actions must speak for each of us. The people that we help, the differences that we make, will testify to what we cannot verbalize. The goal of terror is to paralyze, to make us feel there is nothing we can change. We will now work all that more passionately to ensure that nothing will stop us from growing, from developing and creating.
We owe it to the victims—the more than 190 innocent victims, including six of our Jewish brothers and sisters: Gavriel and Rivky Holtzberg, directors of Chabad-Lubavitch of Mumbai; Rabbis Bentzion Chroman and Leibish Teitelbaum; Norma Schwartzblatt-Rabinowitz; and Yocheved Orpaz. May their righteous memory be for blessing.
