THE WORD OF THE LORD FROM ZION

I am surrounded by the prayers, fasting and love of the saints and I can tell the difference! When I arrived at the Cancer Treatment Center of America last week, I was greeted in the Lobby by a 93 year old godly believer in Jesus, who knew who I was. As an ambassador of Zion, IL, he welcomed me to his city and to the hospital. He assured me that he was praying for me and that the Lord would supply all my needs.

A Nigerian pastor and his wife drove around two hours to intercede for me on Friday and left a gift as well. Apparently, she has come to the Women on the Frontlines Conferences. On Sunday two other couples came from Chicago to encourage me in my faith and to remind me to “never give up”. Others have sent cards and flowers to the hospital. My daughter Rachel and her friend Bethany drove all the way from TN for the weekend to surprise me. What a blessing!

A pastor came over from Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday to just “hang out” with me and drink in the riches of the church history of Zion. Amazing isn’t it? The home that Alexander Dowie, apostle and revivalist, built in 1900, is at the corner of Shiloh and Elisha Streets. One block away in this historic city, where I believe a geographic anointing for signs and wonders still exists, is one the world’s top cancer hospitals. Do you think that is an accident or providence? You can look out from the balcony of the Shiloh House and see the Hospital…. Interesting…

Others welcomed me to the city saying, “The remnant of Zion is praying for you and welcomes you to our city.” Wow!

I got a phone call Monday night from the hospital to come over as something was dropped off with “security” and I needed to come over and pick it up. So at 9 PM Leon Hoover, who is here with me for the last 4 days, drove over to the hospital (I am an outpatient for all my treatments, appointments and scans). A kind letter from another pastor in the region was left for me with a note saying they had been impacted by my book Wasted on Jesus and enclosed a check for the ministry.

An Encouraging Word in Due Season

Psalm 84:6,7 states, “Passing through the valley of Baca (weeping) they make it a spring; The early rain also covers it with blessings, They go from strength to strength, Everyone of the them appears before the Lord in Zion.”

That is the word that the Lord gave to me to encourage me for this trip here to Zion, Illinois for the Cancer Treatment Center of America. I remember, weeping in utter desperation in my shower at home one morning, telling the Lord, “I want to go to Zion!” (I did not know why this came on me so intensely. You see, I did not know at the time that this was the cancer center that specialized in lymphoma cancer.) The Lord opened the door when there was no way. They do not typically take my type of insurance here – but somehow they found a loophole, made an exception and I am here. That too was an answer to prayer.

He Speaks in Layers!

As the Holy Spirit typically works, when He speaks a word there are many layers of understanding that come with it. Sometimes the initial understanding lies right on the surface, other times, you have to dig much deeper for revelatory nuggets of truths hidden within other truths. I have been digging and He has been revealing!

At least that is my history in the revelatory things of God! Yes, that is my experience on this trip. I feel stronger. I sense God’s hand upon me. I feel His good pleasure. I have not seen any angels – except in the form of His people. I have not experienced His fire rushing through my body – except through the zevalin treatments. But I have had divine appointment after appointment so it seems.

I brought a case of my Prayer Storm books with me and I have been freely giving them away as God’s heart pulsates within my heart directing my random acts of kindness. That alone has been a great experience and simple way for me to close out my own portion of 21 Jump Street – taking Jesus to the streets! Yes, God works on multiple levels all at the same time.

Appointment in Zion

In the last chapter of my co-authored book Shifting Shadows of Supernatural Experiences I included the Letter of John G. Lake from the 1920’s to Elder Brooks of the Zion Faith Homes and Elder Brooks’ reply. The theme of the letters centered on the key to long term effect in life and ministry. Elder Brooks replied to Apostle Lake, “See Jesus only!”

This past Sunday I had the honor of visiting the historic Zion Faith Homes which has been in existence for over 100 years. This faith ministry and “house church movement” was founded by a woman apostle named Martha Wing Robinson. Though they embraced all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, their message was pure and simple. They sought Jesus only! Their service was simple with lots of singing in the Spirit mingled with scripture reading, testimonies, hymns and intercession. My heart burned warmly within as I partook of their devotion to Christ Jesus!

I did a prayer walk that afternoon around a beautiful serene park adjacent to the Dowie Memorial Drive and reflected on the God who is the “same yesterday, today and forever”. Though I still miss my dear Annie so very much, and I am left with my kids with many unresolved questions, I could sense heaven’s smile as I worshipped Jesus in the midst of my loss. Yes, I will continue in my pilgrimage towards wholeness and healing and I will ever praise His name.

I am asking the Lord to restore to me the joy of my salvation. I realize that through the weathering of the many difficulties my family has faced in these past few years, my heart has grown somewhat numb. But I have an appointment in ZION. I shall appear before the Lord and I shall go from strength to strength!

Thanks goes to all of you who are making it even possible for me to take these ten weeks off from ministry traveling and to pursue healing and wholeness. I need it so much! You have come through! Thanks for your gifts. Thanks for your prayers! Thanks for fasting. Thanks for your acts of love!

Oh yes, I have had treatments. So far so good! I return home on Thursday, August 27th for a time of rest and recovery. Continue to pray with me for the eradication of all cancer cells and the full restoration of my entire being. I shall go from strength to strength.
