From the Desk of James W. Goll

What a joy it is to partner each week in over 70 countries around the world in our Global Prayer Storm. Last week we carried two themes again. We prayed for an Outpouring of the Holy Spirit among our various First Nation’s Peoples including The Glory of Servanthood web cast. With this E-Blast, I am including a brief report from our yearly outreach with the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma is this past weekend.

This week our prayer theme takes us into some more current events emphasizing the circumstances Thailand, Kyrgyzstan and in Iceland.   Also included is a report on the Day of Prayer among the Cherokee Nation from this past weekend. Thanks for praying for our Host Nations people around the globe this past week. Heaven will record your prayers and one day we will all rejoice at the harvest that came forth from our united prayers.

I have included a web cast this week giving us a “Updated Report” on our Global Prayer Storm efforts.  For those of you who are partners in Prayer Storm, I highly recommend that you get a copy of the Prayer Storm book and study guide as tools to help us be focused and united in our efforts. Remember, you can view previous Prayer Web casts on line on demand at www.prayerstorm.com.

Report on First Nation’s Outreach

What a joy it was to join in with Clifton Pettite, Ada Winn and other Cherokee leaders and believer’s in Christ for the third annual Day of Prayer for the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequa, Oklahoma. This year, with your help, we distributed 170,000 meals to two different food pantries and gave away over 500 copies of our God Encounters book. It is such a blessing to put the towel on your arm and serve these people as Jesus would. We had a great gathering on Friday night and Saturday morning under the tent at the site of the Cherokee Heritage Camp and Museum. Mark Rodgers led the way on the strategic prayer initiative and history was made through the power of loving, forgiving hearts. With the help of Mark Roye and his Holy Smoke Blood N Fire team, we then fed around 200 people a tasty barbeque brisket lunch.

On Sunday I had the joy of ministering at New Life Church with Pastor Garland Thomas. The word of the Lord was strong and His presence was experienced by those present. Thanks for partnering with us. We were your intercessory missionaries this past week. Your support to the combined ministries of Encounters Network • Prayer Storm • Compassion Acts enables us to reach to many with the love of Christ Jesus. Thanks again for partnering with us. If you would like to help us with the expenses of these various outreaches, then you may still do so by >>Clicking Here<<.

The volcanic ash crisis cost airlines a staggering £2.2billion, the European Union's transport chief revealed today. EU executive Siim Kallas announced the figures as he proposed a series of plans, including state aid, to help the struggling airline industry. Following the volcanic eruption in Iceland, thousands of flights were cancelled throughout the world, causing chaos for millions of people. He said: 'We have taken all assessments and valuations of costs from all the different stakeholders and we are working with a number between €1.5 and €2.5billion (£1.3 and £2.1billion).

Volcanic Ash Threat For Ireland And UK This Weekend

Irish and UK airspace could again be affected by the ash cloud from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland this weekend.

Met Eireann is forecasting that winds will shift to a north to north-westerly direction by Saturday afternoon, which will allow any volcanic ash in the atmosphere to move south towards Ireland.

Earlier this week, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned that the Eyjafjallajökull volcano which caused over a week of travel chaos all over Europe this month, is liable to revert to explosive eruptions at any time.

Twelve days after the eruption that led to the closure of Irish airspace, the volcano continues to erupt.  Iceland's main international airport has reopened after a three-day closure due to the ash cloud.

BEIJING (AP) - China will temporarily close its borders with neighbors Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan starting this Friday, in an apparent bid to tighten security ahead of the opening of the Shanghai Expo this weekend.

China has beefed up its security preparations in the run-up to the expo, a marquee event expected to draw 70 million visitors during its six-month run. The expo, which will showcase pavilions from every nation, officially opens Saturday with world leaders in attendance.

Employees at China's checkpoints with Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan confirmed that the borders will be closed for five days, from Friday April 30 till Tuesday May 4. China celebrates May 1, or May Day, as a national holiday.- AP

Ousted Kyrgyz President Charged With Murder

MOSCOW — Kyrgyzstan’s new authorities have charged the country’s former president with mass murder for his role in the deaths of scores of antigovernment protesters earlier this month, an official in the provisional government said Tuesday.

Police and presidential guards opened fire on thousands of demonstrators on April 7, killing at least 85 people. They failed, however, to stop the protesters, who commandeered weapons and an armored personnel carrier and overran the government.

Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the former president, was forced to flee t he country, and is currently in Belarus, where the president, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has guaranteed his security.

The interim government has struggled to return order to Kyrgyzstan, an impoverished Central Asian nation that hosts a United States airbase that serves as a transit hub for troops and equipment for the NATO mission in Afghanistan.

The new government has made prosecuting Mr. Bakiyev a priority, and has vowed to seek his extradition from Belarus.

“Charges have been filed against Bakiyev for exceeding his authority and also for the mass murder of peaceful citizens,” Azimbek Beknazarov, the deputy head of the provisional government, said in a press conference in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, Kyrgyz news agencies reported.

Kyrgyzstan's new leaders set October election date

Kyrgyzstan's interim government says it will hold elections on 10 October, after a constitutional referendum on reducing presidential powers. Omurbek Tekebayev, the new government's deputy head, announced the plans on national television. He said the new constitution, to be put to a vote on 27 July, would prevent power being concentrated in one place. The interim government took control after President Kurmanbek Bakiyev was ousted in violent protests on 7 April. More than 80 people died and hundreds were injured in the violence, which erupted on a day of opposition protests. Mr Bakiyev, who the interim government blames for the deaths, is now in Belarus. He insists he remains the president, but appears to have secured little domestic or international support.

On Thursday Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that Mr Bakiyev's resignation, faxed to Bishkek after he flew to Kazakhstan, could not be retracted.

SE Asia Worries Thailand's Unrest Could Spread

Thailand's neighbors are watching the political unrest in Bangkok with growing concern. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has said the protests there could spread economic and political instability throughout the region.

ASEAN has called on the Thai government and the anti-government demonstrators to exercise restraint and to seek a settlement through dialogue and reconciliation. The foreign ministers of Singapore and Indonesia have made similar statements.

Since March, 26 people have been killed and almost 1,000 injured in bomb blasts and confrontations between police and anti-government protesters in Bangkok known as red shirts. The red shirts, made up mostly of rural and urban poor, demand new elections. The demonstrations have disrupted businesses and tourism in the country.

SCENARIOS - How is Thailand's crisis likely to play out?

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Predicting the next step in Thailand's political crisis requires some bravery after six weeks of street protests, deadly clashes, a department store blockade and grenade attacks, with few signs of compromise.

Attitudes have hardened on both sides since troops and protesters clashed in Bangkok on April 10, killing 25 people and wounding more than 800 during a chaotic army crackdown that has intensified a five-year political crisis.

Following are scenarios about what could happen next with tens of thousands of the red-shirted supporters of ousted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra still on the streets.

RED SHIRT PROTESTERS PROVOKE FURTHER VIOLENT CLASHES

High casualties and the possibility of a failed military operation could be enough to force Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to step down, setting in motion a snap election -- the ultimate demand of the red shirts.

With that in mind, the protesters may try to provoke the military or spark a clash with rival pro-government protesters, drawing upon shadowy militants led by retired generals whose presence among the red shirts has added a dangerous element to their bid for elections.

Some protesters are believed to be armed with assault rifles and M-79 grenades, both of which were used at an April 10 clash with the army that killed 25 people. The government accuses them of leading Thursday's grenade attacks that killed one person and wounded 88 in Bangkok's business district. Army sources say they believe this group has stockpiled weapons at their protest site.
